The 10 Days Out Yorkshire Parents Loved Most in 2025
Every year, we share hundreds of ideas for family days out across Yorkshire — from short walks and free attractions to bigger seasonal events and places that feel like a real treat.
But some places stand out more than others.
This list brings together the 10 days out that saw the highest engagement from parents on our Facebook page in 2025, based on a combination of reach, likes, comments, saves and shares. In other words, these are the places Yorkshire families didn’t just scroll past — they bookmarked them, shared them with friends and kept coming back to them.
If you’re planning days out for 2026, this is a great place to start.
1. Hardcastle Crags, Hebden Bridge

Hardcastle Crags continues to be one of the most saved days out we share. With National Trust parking, multiple walking routes and the ever-popular Gibson Mill café at the centre, it’s an easy favourite.
Parents love the mix of woodland walks, paddling spots, stepping stones (when open) and the sense that you can tailor the visit to your family’s energy levels.

2. Skipton Castle Woods Walk

This free walk starting just behind Skipton Castle is endlessly shareable — and it performed strongly again in 2025.
Beginning right in the town centre, the route follows the canal and leads into peaceful woodland with castle views along the way. It’s easy to combine with a town visit, a castle trip or lunch in Skipton, which makes it especially appealing for families planning a full day out.

3. Valley Gardens, Harrogate

Valley Gardens was one of our biggest-performing posts of the year, and it’s easy to see why. It’s free, central, and genuinely works for a huge age range. Thank you for to Claire Lovatt-Jones for this guest post.
Families love that you can combine the large play park, paddling pool (in warmer months), skate park, Japanese gardens and open green space all in one visit — and still have cafés, toilets and ice cream close by.
It’s the kind of place parents save because they know it will work again and again.

4. Embsay Reservoir Walk

Short walks that “pack a lot in” consistently perform well — and Embsay Reservoir is a perfect example. Thank you to Gemma Holmes of Little Miss Yorkshire for this guest post.
This roughly one-mile circular walk is ideal for younger children, with open views, wildlife spotting and space to roam without it feeling overwhelming. Parents shared this one widely because it’s realistic, achievable and feels like a win rather than a challenge.

5. Cauldron Falls, West Burton

Cauldron Falls consistently captures parents’ attention thanks to its beautiful setting and manageable walk. Thank you to Samantha Brown for this guest post.
Located in the village of West Burton, this waterfall makes a great focal point for a relaxed family outing, with riverside walks, picnic spots and village cafés nearby. It’s one of those places parents save for “a nice day” when they want something scenic without a long hike.

6. The Fountains Way Walk (Ripon to Fountains Abbey)

The Fountains Way walk was one of our strongest-performing outdoor posts of the year, with parents saving and sharing it as a “proper day out” that still feels achievable.
This circular route links Ripon with Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal, taking in riverside paths, wildflowers, woodland, deer park views and plenty of spots to stop and explore along the way. What parents particularly liked is how flexible it is — you can walk shorter sections or tackle the full route depending on energy levels.
It’s a brilliant example of the kind of Yorkshire day out families return to again and again: scenic, varied and genuinely memorable.

7. Moorlands Nature Reserve (near York)

This lesser-known nature reserve near York performed exceptionally well in 2025, particularly with families of younger children.
With a very short walking route, a treehouse, carvings, trails and lots to spot along the way, it’s ideal for little legs. Parents often saved this one because it’s free, manageable and feels like a gentle introduction to outdoor exploring.

8. Kettlewell to Starbotton Walk

This Wharfedale walk is often described as the walk for a summer’s day — and parents clearly agreed.
With paddling spots, meadows, ice cream, village pubs and stunning Dales scenery, it’s one of those routes families share when they want to tempt others out on a sunny day. It’s a longer walk than some others on this list, but the rewards are plentiful.

9. Mother Shipton’s Cave (Seasonal Events)

Mother Shipton’s Cave earned its place on this list thanks to consistently strong engagement around its seasonal events, particularly Halloween.
Families love the balance of atmosphere, humour and gentle spookiness, and comments regularly mention how well it works for a wide age range. With events that sell out year after year, it’s a paid day out that parents clearly feel is worth planning for.

10. The People’s Pizzeria, Hebden Bridge

Not every high-performing post is a walk or an attraction — and The People’s Pizzeria proves that.
This tucked-away pizza spot in Hebden Bridge performed brilliantly on social media, with parents commenting, saving and sharing it as a “simple win”. Wood-fired pizza, a holiday feel and a relaxed atmosphere made it a favourite recommendation for families heading into town.
