What to Expect at Baxby Manor | Yorkshire Camping & Glamping
I have to admit, as much as I love camping in Yorkshire, I was a little nervous driving to our pitch at Baxby Manor. We’d booked to stay 4 times over the last few years and had never made it. Sick kids , a downpour of a weekend and finally Lockdown 1, Lockdown 3, spoiled our plans each time.
This time though, the skies were clear, the kids were in good health, and everything seemed to be in order. It felt a bit too good to be true and I half expected to have out car break down en route to the site.

However, the stars must have been aligned for us as we made it without incident and had a fantastic few days of sunshine! I have to say, Baxby Manor was well worth the wait. It was tidy, friendly and just all around delightful.
I know that everyone has different things they are looking for in a camping holiday, but if you like a quiet campsite with a natural feel, Baxby Manor is a great choice.
Here’s what to expect during a stay.
Facitilies at Baxby Manor

The toilet and shower block were very clean and comfortable. Visitors are asked not to wear outside shoes, which means you can either go without or put coverings on. It’s a little inconvenient, but it does seem to keep everything nice and tidy.
Showers are nice and roomy and free of charge as well!

The pot washing room has washing up liquid provided, a refrigerator and freezer (just for food, no drinks) and a small vending machine. There is also a drying room for wet boots clothing.

The kids loved to visit the small shop located at reception. It has essential supplies like firelighters, matches and basic food, and completely nonessential supplies like balls, ice cream, drinks and toys.

The Shack served up excellent coffee and cakes while we were there but it’s sadly closed now until further notice.
Baxby Manor Campsite is Ecofriendly

As fitting for a campsite surrounded by nature, Baxby Manor works hard to be eco-friendly. They use renewable energy and have recycle bins for the campers. You can even donate leftover food to the local foodbank, and food waste can be fed to the chickens. They also supply eco-friendly cleaning products in the washing up room and toilets.
Clear rules

It’s worth making sure you are happy with the rules at Baxby Manor before choosing to stay there. At check in it’s very clear that the rules are enforced. These include no music, quiet from 7-11, and no groups of over 3 families. Dogs must remain on leads at all time.
These rules work for us as we prefer a quieter campsite. However, if you’re looking for more of a party pad (or even just wanting to play music) this isn’t the site for you.
I will say no one came around checking up on us but I think they would have if a rule had been broken. (We once stayed at a site where someone continually did rounds on a bicycle checking up on all the guests – it made me feel like a naughty kid in school.)
Kid friendly

Although we were quiet from 7-11, I can’t say we were quiet during the day. We camped with 3 other families and the kids were their normal, loud kid selves.
Baxby Manor do have a ‘adults only’ portion of the site called The Sanctuary for anyone wishing to book a child-free stay.

I really liked the our pitches were set apart so we didn’t need to worry about balls flying into other peoples’ tents or annoying our neighbors (or at least annoying them less!). Our three pitches came with electricity and were in their own area of the field. All of the tent pitches seemed to have ample space around them for a bit of privacy though.
You can’t park directly next to your pitch but the parking spot is very nearby.

The kids’ favourite bit of the site was a rope swing just over the bridge and a place to paddle. They did need adult supervision though as it was much too far to see from the tents.
We were told that there was a play area a short walk from the campsite but we never got around to looking for it!

Each pitch has it’s own fire pit. You can either bring logs or purchase them at the store. Personally I find camping without a fire always a bit disappointing.
There are plenty of kid friendly outings and walks close to Baxby Manor, including alpaca walks, biking a Stutton Bank, or even Flamingo Land or Go Ape if you’re looking for a big day out.
Glamping at Baxby Manor

Baxby Manor also has eco-pods, Hobbit Houses and a very exciting looking cabin called Rufu’s Roost. We did a few glamping trips before we got into camping and I still enjoy glamping. It’s all of the fun but a fraction of the work!
I really enjoyed the quiet, chilled pace of Baxby Manor and will definitely be visiting again!
