Yorkshire Dales Walks with Cafes
Coffee and cake anyone?
In my humble opinion, there is no finer way to walk than when you have a bag full of cake and a coffee in hand! Am I right?
That is why I have undertaken the personal responsibility to try as many incredible Yorkshire Dales cafes as possible. I know. It was a hard job, but somebody had to do it…
So here are 5 fantastic walks with terrific tried and tested cafes to go grab coffee, cake, tea or whatever else floats your snack and hot drink-based boat!
Burnsall to Hebden Circular & The Riverbank

This is not only a fantastic riverside wander, but it has not one, not two, but THREE excellent cafes to choose from!
This four mile circular wander takes you from the centre of Burnsall, which is the home of The Wharfe View Tearoom and the Riverbank Café, along the riverside passing Loup Scar and the suspension bridge and then over to Hebden, where you’ll find The Old School Tearoom, conveniently located next to a teeny tiny play area! So, I’m not going to put any ideas in your head but… That’s enough cafes for one at the start, one in the middle and one at the end.
The best bit is, that each and every one of these cafes is amazing! So good luck choosing (If I were you, I’d just go to all three….)

Askrigg and Mill Gill Force & Bake-Well Café

The beautiful village of Askrigg is nestled in the heart of Wensleydale and is the home to two spectacular waterfalls which feature in this walk.
But we’re not here for the waterfalls are we?! (Actually I totally am, virtually ALL the time!)
This walk takes you right past the doors of the Bake-Well Café in Askrigg. This cute café serves a selection of delicious homemade cakes and light bites, both eat in and takeaway and I thoroughly recommend you pay it a visit before heading to the glorious Mill Gill Force and Whitfield Gill Force on this 4.5 mile circular walk.
Oh and there’s also a small play area behind the church too!

Clapham and the Norber Erratics & Sawmill Café

The tiny village of Clapham is the home to the newly renovated Sawmill Café, which is found at the start of the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail.
This characterful café serves super homemade cakes, light bites and hot and cold drinks to both eat in or takeaway and is always on our list of stops when we head in that direction!
You can either head to the Ingleborough Estate Nature Trail which is pushchair friendly (there is an admission charge payable at the Sawmill Café) or you could try walking a little further to the Norber Erratics, which are some crazy geological phenomena found on the hillside above Clapham.
Make sure you also head to the play are in the middle of Clapham too!

Grassington and Grass Woods & The Retreat

You are totally spoiled for choice in Grassington when it comes to Cafés! The Retreat is a stunning café serving homemade cakes and light bites for both takeaway and eat in, and once you are fully stocked up with tasty treats, you can head on over to Grass Woods for a woodland wander, which takes you back to Grassington along the side of the river.
When you get back to Grassington, it would be a totally OUTRAGEOUS decision to grab cake and hot chocolate from the Cake House wouldn’t it…. No?
So, a top wander, with a fantastic café (or five!) and the park is just down the road too! If you want to read the fully updated route description for Grass Woods head to The Reluctant Explorers: Yorkshire Walking With Kids — Ghaistrill’s Strid and Grass Woods, Grassington
Malham and Janet’s Foss & The Old Barn

Malham is just glorious. Whilst it is notoriously busy, you can’t deny its beauty!
And it just so happens to be the home of this beauty of a café too! The Old Barn in Malham serves homemade food, cakes, tasty treats and hot and cold drinks, and is the perfect place to stop off after a walk to the fantastic Janet’s Foss.
What also adds a SUPER kid friendly vibe to it, is that is also offers pottery painting! No need to book, just turn up and paint away!
