Why is it that a strawberry tastes so much nicer when you’ve picked it yourself?  For a chance to try strawberry picking straight from stem, you’ll only need to go as far as one of Yorkshire’s PYO strawberry fields.  For a unique family day out here are 10 to try!

Strawberry Picking in North Yorkshire

Spilman Farming PYO, Thirsk


At Spilmans Farming strawberries are grown uncovered in the fresh air and ripen naturally in the sunshine. The strawberry fields are spread over 16 acres so there plenty of room for everyone! They also will have a special Spilmans Kids Fun Zone on weekends in June.

Birchfield farm, Summerbridge, North Yorkshire

Birchfield Farm is an actual working farm nestled in Nidderdale, North Yorkshire. This summer you can find PYO strawberries as well as their famous Maize Maze and ice cream parlour!

Strawberry Fields, Morely

Strawberry Fields Morley

Strawberry Fields is a family run patch with PYO strawberries located just outside of Morely.  The kids loved our visit and they look forward to returning each year.  Don’t forget cash as they don’t take cards!

Where to Find Them:  Wakefield Road, Morley, LS27 0LX, Opposite the Toby Carvery Pub at Bruntcliffe.  There are large signs out front it’s easy to spot from the road.

Horsforth Pick Your Own, Leeds

Horsforth Pick your own is a family run business providing PYO strawberries and raspberries since 1984.

Bentley Grange, Huddersfield

Bentley Grange has a range of soft fruit including strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants and gooseberries. During peak season they sell Longley Farm cream, locally produced ice cream and honey, and their regular supply of fresh eggs.

Redwood Farm has both local home grown pick your own strawberries and pumpkins.

Farmer Copleys Strawberry Patch, Pontefract

Farmer Copleys Strawberry Patch is located on a working farm complete with a farm shop and the delicious MOO Cafe.  We enjoy a visit for both their PYO pumpkin festival and corn maze in the summer.

The Balloon Tree Farm Shop & Cafe PYO Strawberries, Gate Helmsley, York

The award winning Balloon Tree Farm Shop has PYO strawberries, animals to feed, a children’s play area, and a cafe with goodies made at on their on-site bakery.

No booking is required for Eastfield Farm PYO Strawberries where you can also find tearooms and a farm shop. They allow well-behaved dogs on leads (they must stay on the edge of the strawberry fields). There is no entry or parking fee – you simply pay for what you pick.
