‘Castles’, Trails & Fun at Beautiful Beaumont Park | Huddersfield
We love a day out at a Yorkshire park. Recently we explored Beaumont Park for the first time, a strange and wonderful place at the edge of Huddersfield.
Beaumont Park, Huddersfield HD4 7AY
Beaumont Park rests on the edge of Huddersfield and is just over 20 acres in size. The park is unique in that it combines the features of a beautifully maintained, familiar urban park with a slightly overgrown, wilder ‘castle’ area. In Beaumont Park, as well as a brand new adventure play area, you can find Victorian follies, stunning, unexpected views, and hidden pathways that ignite a sense of exploration.
There is plenty of free roadside parking, a cafe, toilets and pram-friendly paths as well.
Pram Friendly Beaumont Park
We parked on Beaumont Park Road and entered next to The Lodge where there is an assortment of free flyers for visitors to pick up. You can also download them all at the Friends of Beaumont Park website if you prefer to plan your trip and have them on your phone.
We picked ourselves up a map and a kids’ tree trail to follow. The pram-friendly trails are clearly marked on the map. They led past the bandstand, monkey island, the cascade and fountain, and finally, past the play areas.
Lily had a go at identifying all the landmarks marked on the tree trail as we went along.
The trails are well-maintained, wide, and suitable for scooters and prams.
There is also a Nature Story Trail with beautiful carvings and stories to read and a Dinosaur Safari Trail you can use with the Love Exploring App, which you can download here.
Beaumont Park play areas
There is a brand new adventure play area at Beaumont Park as well as a smaller play area above it that has been in the park for some time. They are within viewing distance of each other and close to the Buttersnab Road entrance.
The Wild Side of Beaumont Park
After a good play in the play areas, we headed for the ‘wild side’ of Beaumont Park. Although the kids had their scooters and enjoyed riding them on the paved areas, I wouldn’t say that the wilder areas of the park are scooter-friendly. I carried both scooters up and down a few set of stairs!
There were plenty of opportunities for cave exploring, castle climbing and getting a little messy!
Beaumont cafe
When we visited Beumont Park the cafe wasn’t open, but this did give us the chance to try Dixon’s Milk Ices for a treat.
Follow The Friends of Beaumont Park Facebook Page to keep up to date with cafe opening times.
Dixon’s Milk Ices, Huddersfield, HD1 3UB
Dixon’s Milk Ices is just a few minutes away from Beaumont Park by car (or 15 minutes walking) and is a real old-fashioned ice cream parlour experience. It’s modest, with limited seating, but the lady who looked after us made us feel very welcome.
We got two good sized ice cream cones with flakes and a flat white coffee for just over £4, which I think is excellent value for money.
Leo certainly gave the Nutella ice cream a big, big thumbs up!
