24 free & budget friendly Christmas events in West Yorkshire this December

Who doesn’t need a a bit of help saving a bit of cash during the holidays.  With this in mind, I turned to the Yorkshire Tots to Teens Facebook group for some suggestions for budget friendly Christmas days out!  Below you’ll find plenty to choose from including a festive family walk, free craft workshops and even tram ride to visit Santa.

Please note that some parking charges may apply and always check before you set off for an event as last minute changes may occur.

Discover advent scenes in the Saltaire Living Advent at Saltaire Village (free), December 1 – January 5

Enjoy the Festive Streets of Haworth with a new theme each weekend and free activities, Weekends until December 24

Leeds Dad highly recommends Santa’s Post Office in Sheffield, (free), through December 24

Enjoy the newly refurbished Piece Hall in Halifax which has loads of events on for Christmas including free entertainment on various dates throughout December, see this link for details

Watch Christmas come to life at Meadowhall with a unique theatrical experience,  Reindeer Parade, (free)  Through Dec 18 excluding Tuesdays

Ride a tram ride to Santa for a special gift at Shipley Glen Tramway Santa Specials (£5 per child), Weekends in December

Pay a visit to Leeds Christkindelmarkt (free entry),  Through December 23

Meet Peppa, Dave the Minion, Chase from Paw Patrol , Pikachu and Olaf at Ackworth Garden Centre (free), weekends in December

Wander through Tong Garden Centre and enjoy the festive feeling – you can enter a giant snow globe (£2.50 for  a photograph) or enjoy a donkey ride (£2.50 per child), Various dates until December 24 – see this link for details

Visit Santa at Santa’s Grotto at the Merrion Centre  (visit free, visit & present £3 per child), Through December 24

Stroll through a Wintery Strid Wood and spot the wooden Christmas trees dotted along the trail at Bolton Abbey, (trail free of charge but a £10 parking fee applies), December 1-24

Enjoy an afternoon of seasonal fun for all of the family at Christmas Carols and Craft (free entry), The Old Fire Station, Leeds, December 2

Celebrate a Medieval Christmas at Pontefract Castle (free) December 2 – 3

Bring the family to the Festive Streets and Festive Funfair at City Park, Bradford (free) December 2 – 3

Enjoy music and carols around the tree (free) at the Saltaire Christmas Light Switch On, December 3

Print and make a festive lamp to add a sprinkle of festive cheer to your home this winter (free) at The Hepworth, December 3, 10, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24

See forty Christmas trees installed inside the beautifully restored Kirkgate, Otley Church at the Otley Christmas Tree Festival 2017,  (free) December 6-9

Join “The Storytellers” as they explore the world of film and create stories with The Storytellers: The Nightmare Before Christmas (free), Calverley Library, December 7
