Anyone who follows the blog knows that Whitby is one of our favourite places to take the kids. Its mixture of maritime history and traditional seaside charms make it pretty special. It’s a place we never really tire of.
With this in mind, we were delighted to be invited to spend a night at the lovely Corra Lynn Bed & Breakfast close to Pannett Park. The owners, Michelle and Simon are, themselves, parents to young children, and are very interested in offering a comfortable ‘family friendly’ place to stay. We had a great time and so here are seven reasons why we recommend a visit to this excellent B and B:
1. Welcoming and Family friendly
From the very start of our stay at Corra Lynn Bed & Breakfast, Michelle and Simon were wonderful hosts. We were greeted with maps, plenty of tourist information to help us with our stay, and some of the best homemade lemon drizzle cake you could imagine!
There was coffee, orange juice, milk, and even little bags of Haribo sweets waiting in the room too. Just what you need after a drive over the moors.
At 5 and 6 my kids no longer need as much ‘gear’ when they travel, but Corra Lynn Bed & Breakfast provide cots and even baby bouncers for their guests to use if they wish. Although we didn’t need these, they would certainly have been invaluable in some of our weekends away when ours were smaller.
2. Dedicated off-street parking
The only thing I sometimes find frustrating about visiting Whitby is finding a parking spot at busy times. The free, dedicated, off-street parking for the duration of our stay was a nice touch and took that minor level of stress out of the equation.
3. Clean, comfortable rooms
As it was just the kids and I for this Whitby visit, we stayed in a family room for three with a double and a single bed. It was clean and very tastefully decorated with comfortable, fresh beds. The en-suite shower and toilet were spotless too.
Our room had a TV with freeview, the usual tea & coffee facilities and free WiFi.
4. Pannett Park
Having Pannett Park just a two minute walk away from where we were staying was fantastic. In our 24 hour visit we went to the park three times! It’s very well maintained with plenty for the kids to play on. Although we didn’t visit it on this occasion, Whitby Museum is in the park too and is definitely our list of things to do on our next visit.
5. Short walk to town
Corra Lynn Bed & Breakfast is only a short walk from the town. I would guess it took us about 7 minutes.
Once down in the town, we got up to do all of our favourite Whitby things: fish and chips, sandcastles and donkey rides!
There’s nothing like an ice-cream (and a promise of a play in the park) to get some motivation into tired little legs!
6. Cosy & modern
The decor at Corra Lynn is clean, warm and contemporary. We had a peek in a few of their other rooms and found them all equally inviting.
7. Great food
I’ve already mentioned the lemon drizzle cake, but Michelle and Simon also bake their own bread and serve amazing breakfasts made with locally sourced ingredients. I am clearly not a food blogger, as I dug right into my leek and cheese vegetarian sausages without taking a snap, but I can attest that they were very, very good!
Family members who require gluten/dairy free food or other dietary requirements are easily catered for upon request.
The observant among you may probably have understood that we were very impressed with our stay at Corra Lynn Bed & Breakfast! I feel that it offers outstanding hospitality, in clean comfortable rooms at reasonable rates.
We had a really great time and if you’re looking for somewhere in Whitby for a family weekend, Simon and Michelle’s smashing B and B could be an ideal choice.
We were invited to stay at Corra Lynn for the purpose of this review.
