How did an American end up writing a blog called Yorkshire Tots?
I am originally from the United States but I took the long way around to Yorkshire. I was born in the western state of Montana (think mountains, lakes, half a year of snow and the occasional bear) where I grew up and attended university to be a teacher of Spanish and English as an Additional Language.
After university I worked as an international teacher in Mexico, Venezuela and Turkey. While working at an American school in Turkey, I met and later married a fellow teacher who happened to be a Yorkshireman. The rest, as they say, is history.
Less than a year after moving to the UK our daughter was born. At first I was a little overwhelmed by the amount there was on offer for children in West Yorkshire. Now that travel consisted mainly of days out to farms and parks, I was pleased to be somewhere where there was so much to do but I had a hard time keeping it all straight.
My love of events pages, itineraries and my
obsession interest in planning got me thinking that it would be great to have the local activities in one place. In 2013 after my second child was born, I started Yorkshire Tots.
From a family friendly events calendar and daily activity listings, Yorkshire Tots has grown to include days out, holidays, giveaways, offers from local business and reviews of family friendly products. I’ve had lots of help and suggestions along the way from the Yorkshire Tots Facebook community for which I am very grateful.
Running the blog has been a great adventure full of muddy wellies, theatre outings, seaside holidays and of course, lots of coffee and cake.
Thank you for reading and I hope that Yorkshire Tots makes planning your family fun a bit easier. Please get in touch if you have any questions, ideas or suggestions for me.
